Happiness on the Homestead

Happiness...

Does it come from the big things in life, like promotions, weddings, and such?  Yes, it can.

But, it is so much more...

It's just being content in the moment, in the day...

Yesterday, was one of those days!!

The hubby and I went over to work on the house.  As I looked out the window, I noticed a hawk sitting on a nearby hill.  I took my camera out to the front porch, and looked for him again. He had flown to a nearby tree. I was able to snap this picture just as he was leaving that tree.
Hawk in Flight

After helping the hubby with electrical work, and also with some plumbing layout, I headed outside once again.

Although I wasn't able to catch them on camera this time, I still gotta watch my hummingbirds in action.  Had to laugh as my ruby-throated hummingbird, chased off another one that was trying to get a drink. And, as those two flew off in their chase, a green one swooped in for a leisurely drink!

Still gotta identify the green one. That's a job for today, I guess!

To finish off the day, the hubby and I took a few minutes between rainstorms to check out our blackberry "crop".  As you can tell from the pictures, our "harvest" and "crop" are not too big yet!!  LOL

Don't think I quite have enough to make a pie yet, what do you think?   😋

Harvest?? LOL

Last, but not least, a shot of our peaceful country setting.  It is still a work in progress, and will be for a while.  Progress will be much, much faster when the insulation guys, and the sewage guys, can fit us into their busy schedules this summer.  That will speed everything up quite a bit!!

A Work in Progress

And so ends another day in paradise!!

Learning New Skills all the Time!

Gotta keep those brain cells working, by learning new things all the time, right?

Well, in the last few days I have been working on my technology skills. You may not be able to see it very clearly, but actually this picture allows me to show off everything that I've learned recently.

I have been wanting to make, and add, a logo, to my photos on my blogs.

I was also a little curious about trying to make memes.

So, I had a little fun learning how to make all that happen.

With the help of the LogoMaker, Photo Editor, and Meme Generator apps, I created the masterpiece that you see above! LOL

Our First Visitors!

We have visitors already!!

Last week, I took the time to make some sugar water and hang up my hummingbird feeder.  That was a very good move!

My feeder is in a small grove of trees, and it has been fun watching the hummingbirds fly around.  I watch them buzz down to the feeder and then back up to the tree branches.  I have never before seen a hummingbird sit still for more than a few nanoseconds.

But, last night, I watched them sit still for a while to get their drinks, and then sit on the branches for a few seconds.

But, never when I had my camera ready! However, right before we left the cabin, I managed to film one of these little cuties.

It looks like a ruby-throated hummingbird; but it was getting dark, and I couldn't get very close.  The film is a little grainy, but I hope you can still enjoy it.

This is the first time that I have tried to load a video onto a post. So, fingers crossed that it works well.

Just click on the words below, and it will link to the video.  Let me know what you think!  Just no comments on my videographer skills!!  LOL

Love our Wildlife Friends!

One of the things that I love the most about living in the country, is the variety of wildlife that you see! In the last month, we have had many encounters with all kinds of wildlife.

My biggest regret is that usually these animals are much faster than me and my camera! But, just yesterday, we did happen to catch these  cute guys on camera...

Deer on our way home

 Cute little bunny

One of the coolest encounters, though, was really more of a flyby! We had drove around the bend by our property, and caught a bald eagle taking off near our mailbox! I have never seen anything so majestic, and huge! Its wingspan was every bit as wide as our road!   There is a known eagle's nest within a mile of our house, but this is the first time that we have spotted one!

We also were witness to a few family outings.  A mama wild turkey   was crossing the driveway with her little babies a few weeks ago, and, we also happened to witness a family of raccoons in our neighbor's hay field just a few days ago.

Gurgling creeks, abundant wildlife, lovely landscapes...Ahh, I love the life!!

The Progress Continues...

When faced with an overwhelming project in the past, someone might have asked you what seemed to be an exceptionally odd question:   "You know how you eat an elephant, right?"

Well, the answer to that is, "One bite at a time!"

I know that you may be wondering what in the heck I am talking about just now.

And no, I have not gone crazy!!  Well, maybe I have, but that is beside the point!  LOL

This old saying comes from how we look at any big project.  You can only deal with it one bite at a time.

And that is what we are doing these days.  The hubby has been working hard on the electrical for a while. And, as some have asked...yes, he knows what he is doing. Also, he will have a licensed electrician check his work.

But when we were given the gift of this linoleum recently, we couldn't pass up getting started on our bathroom.  This flooring looks just like the nearby Brown County stone that is popular in this general area of Indiana.  It fits so well with the "cabin" feel that we are attempting to create.

So, tell us what you think!
