There are some days that I think God manages to put just the right words in front of you. If I find just the right words in a book, or a blog, that I'm reading; I usually, I will usually take a few days to take the words in and digest them. Today, was one of those days!
I would like to introduce you to someone that I am highly motivated by in my quest to follow my dreams. Jenna Woginrich has found a way to make a living and follow her dream. I try to read her blog (www.coldantlerfarm.blogspot.com) every chance I get. Some days, I get behind and read a few posts at a time.
Even when you are following your dreams, you still can feel overwhelmed. Jenna reminded me to still keep on going. Old friends are the best
"Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold."
How many of you have heard, or sang, that song over the years? I remember learning it as a child. Back then, that's all it was, ...a song. But many, many years later, I realize the very real wisdom in those words.
I have made many new friends over the years, but nothing compares to old friends that know you better than you know yourself. The kind that don't even have to ask what's wrong. The kind that wouldn't believe you anyway, when you tried to say "I'm fine." The kind that would do anything for you without asking any questions.
I have been truly blessed to have these amazing ladies in my life for so long. I met one in 3rd grade, one in 6th, and one in high school. And one, I didn't actually meet until a few years ago, but we have been pen pals since the age of ten. Now, we are on the cusp of middle-age (the very, very beginning cusp, mind you!!!! LOL) and I still can't wait to see what life has in store for all of us. But, no matter what, I know for a fact that these ladies will still be there with me for the ride.
I asked my grandma one day, how long she had been friends with these two women from our church. She told me that Gert had been her friend since they were about fifteen or so, and Pauline, since their early 20's. My grandma was nearing 90 at that time, and the ladies were also still by her side.
I tell you this because I want my friends to still be there with me as we all are hitting our 90's. We are only halfway there now, and I can't wait to see what the other half of the ride will be like!!!

Curiosity...the fountain of youth
"Life must be lived and curiosity kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life."

I just recently came across this quote and it struck me as a terrific philosophy for how I should live my life. I love learning new things! Some of the most interesting people I've ever met seem to have an insatiable curiosity. My husband is like that! If he wants to learn how to do something, he doesn't waste a minute before he is opening up a book, watching a Youtube video on it or finding an expert on it. Many times, we have been out somewhere and he will see something that he thinks is interesting. He has no problem talking to the person involved to find out more. He has made some great friends this way and has learned something new.
I think that curiosity, and acting upon it, is the real fountain of youth. It keeps you young, and it keeps your brain young! Fifty years from now, I want to still have the same insatiable curiosity that I have now. I want to have acted upon that curiosity over the next fifty years, and have an interesting life to look back on when I'm old.

Life Zooming Right Along!
Sorry, Sorry, Sorry! Life has just been zooming along very quickly the last few weeks. Been getting up with to-do lists and going to bed with them. But it has been worth it. It will slow down soon, and I will have a lot to show for it.
But even in all of this craziness, I am still trying to stop and smell the roses. I have a great life...wonderful husband, great kids, family, friends, and so much more.
Please bear with me if I am not able to post every day for just another week or two. The weekend will be here soon and I can relax a little bit more. I will finish my episode of "Gilmore Girls" (a guilty pleasure!) as I wrap up this post. Then, a chance to talk to the hubby after he gets home from work (very rare during weeks that our work schedules don't match). Last, but not least, a chapter or two from my latest book. A perfect way to end the evening!! Good night, everyone!!!

Quality time!
Spring has definitely sprung! And with it, a lot more things to do. But it's the good things, though, that leave you well-rested for the night. While planting strawberries with my husband, it felt wonderful to be outside again after being cooped up all winter. The wildflowers and newly-mowed grass mixed together in a fragrant breeze and the river sparkled in the sunlight. It just doesn't get any better than that!
Oh, but wait it does! Our friend called and wanted to visit us with her daughter on Sunday. Next thing I know, we are enjoying wonderful food sizzling way on the grill and a terrific visit with some good friends that lasted well into the evening.
I have always been one to worry about what I should be doing and not just enjoying the moment. This weekend, I swept the worry under the rug and had a terrific time! I still managed to run a few errands, work a 9-5 shift on Saturday and get some laundry and dishes done as well, but spending quality time with my husband and good friends...priceless!

Mother's Day
This weekend, my thoughts have naturally turned to the idea of motherhood. As we were growing up, we didn't think too much about what it takes to be a mother. Honestly, we didn't even think about it at all. Mom was just there when you needed her. It's not until we became parents ourselves, that our concept of motherhood begins to really take shape.
Then all of a sudden, you are trying to remember what your mother would say or do at each stage in your child's life. You hope that you are doing a good job, but you are never quite sure. But like I have said before, it is not just about the destination, it is also about the journey.
Do the best you can as you raise your child. Teach them how to become the best person that they can be. But more than anything, enjoy the journey of raising your child. Don't wish it away, saying "I can't wait until this stage is over", or something similar. I love my son dearly and have enjoyed all the years that I have been blessed to have him in my life. But as a single parent who held a full-time job and went to college for much of his childhood, I feel like I just "made it through" many of those days.
Now, he has only one year left of high school. We have been having many discussions about planning his future. Knowing that in a year or so, he will be "on his own" has me wanting to turn back the clock and start the journey over again. But, I will enjoy every minute of the time that we have left together in this house. I will enjoy this part of the journey, and I look forward to helping him reach his destination. What a beautiful ride this has been so far! I am very blessed to have taken this journey, and also to have been given a wonderful mother to show me the way.

Friends!!!
What a beautiful weekend we had here! My husband and I got a lot of outside chores done while the weather was nice. But we were truly blessed when our friends came over. Sometimes, you find yourself torn between staying home and getting things done around your house, and visiting with your friends. You would love to visit with them as much as possible, but you also haven't been home much in the last few weeks.
That's when it is nice to have friends that can help each other out whenever possible. We don't always have to go somewhere to get our visits in, or spend a lot of money. Both families have bought fixer-uppers, and can use all the help we can get. While I was working, they borrowed my husband a few weeks ago to help with fixing up their porch.
This weekend, as we were working outside, the family pulled up to bring back the mower they had borrowed. Next thing I knew, the children were helping me weed, the other hubby was helping my hubby work on his truck, and the two of us moms were putting a supper together. We got a lot of visiting in and a lot of work done, all in one day!
What a blessing it is when you have good friends like we do!! We became friends because our sons did many years ago. But we have stayed friends because it is nice to know that whether it is with your children, home, pets, tools, chores, you name it...you always know that you can trust someone to have your back!!!
